Early last week, an intrepid crew of volunteers tackled the rebuilding of the miniature railway’s approach tracks from the south into Don Station. The weather was great and although chilly in the shade when the wind blew it was warm enough with lots of sunshine taking the chill off the air. As can be seen in the images above, we ran a test train using engine #2 and a bench car and everything worked just fine. All together sixty man-hours was invested over the two days to fix the station approach tracks. A train from the depot can now access either station platform as can a mainline train. A train can also back up to the depot from either platform track via the west leg of the Y.

Later in the week, as shown in the images below, a crew of volunteers also tackled the track segments which crossed the bricked paths. During the season, we encountered a problem with the bricks between the rails being knocked out by foot traffic and causing a safety hazard. So we took up the bricks and installed wooden decking between the rails which is fastened to the railroad’s ties.
