For a long time and even today, passenger baggage is loaded and unloaded at stations using a baggage cart. These were once a common fixture at every station across the continent. The concept was modernized after the 1970’s, and now most baggage carts are driven similar to ones used at airports. The TRHA has received multiple donations of baggage carts, the majority of which are on display in the vicinity of Don Station. Most of the ones in our collection belonged to CN, although we do have an electric baggage cart from VIA Rail. It is possible that some of our older carts once belonged to CN’s predecessors, such as the Canadian Northern or Grand Trunk Railway. Our neighbour Steam Whistle Brewery was the donor of one of our baggage carts.
