Here is a quick update on the status of our Save the Museum initiative.
There have been a series of meetings with executives of Toronto Hydro including Anthony Haines, President and CEO, and with a number of City of Toronto Councillors in order to resolve the outstanding issues that would allow the Toronto Railway Museum to retain use of the Machine Shop and prevent destruction of the heritage fabric of the building.
The main thrust of our effort is to identify adjacent City land that would allow Hydro space to construct their ever expanding transformer station. From all aspects, we identify the enemy as time. There must be time for Hydro to redesign to accommodate any new land. The City must be proactive in processing this land for Hydro’s use. There exist real and imminent deadlines which must be met.
We are grateful and encouraged by your responses and comments to date. You have broadened this effort from a local Toronto matter to one of world-wide concern.
Our petition is providing us with evidence of the strong support for the museum among the rail community, supporters of history and heritage, and the public in general. We already have over 900 hundred signatures on our online petition and over a 1,000 on paper-based copies of our petition. We need as many signatures as we can get to catch the attention of the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Toronto.
If you have not already done so, we strongly urge you to sign this petition and let everyone you know how important support is.
